From the impressive Arco do Castelo, the entrance to this majestic fortress, you'll follow a tour of the most important points of this must-see monument of the city. This journey will take you through the centuries, from the Middle Ages to modern times—it's truly a journey through time!

During the visit, which lasts approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes, you'll discover the treasures hidden behind its walls at your own pace. Originally a Visigothic castle, its construction began in the 5th century. However, the fortress you visit today was developed during the Moorish occupation in the 11th century, and later restored after the Reconquest.

To top it all off, you can end your tour of St. George's Castle by exploring its beautiful viewpoints and enjoying the best panoramic views of the east side of Lisbon. You'll see the whole Alfama district, the Tagus River and the hills surrounding the city from a unique perspective. Did you know that the fortress is located on the highest hill in Lisbon? St. George's Castle is open at the following times:

November to February: daily from 9 am to 7 pm. Final admission 30 minutes before closing time.
March to October: daily from 9 am to 9 pm. Final admission 30 minutes before closing time.

Reduced Admission

Certain groups qualify for reduced admission:

Individuals under 26 years old
Seniors aged 65 and above

To take advantage of these tickets, visit the monument's ticket office and present valid supporting documentation. However, please note that reduced admission does not include an audio guide.
